About this event

Did you know that the internet is thought to produce more carbon emissions than the aviation industry? In fact, the IT sector consumes approximately 7% of global electricity. For many of us, myself included, these statistics come as a surprise the first time you hear them.

So we'll start this session by exploring the unseen carbon emissions from the internet as whole. We’ll take a look at which parts of creating and delivering data/apps/websites create the most emissions. Just what does it cost to consume a gigabyte of video at home?

We’ll look at some ideas on how you can reduce your own emissions both as a casual user of the web and a website creator, without compromising the quality or convenience of what you need to do.

There have also been some fantastic success stories from some of tech’s biggest players in addressing this issue, which are absolutely game changing. We’ll take a look at some of the great work already happening.
