The BDF Digital Skills Exchange
Creating tech careers for individuals and new talent for businesses.
What is the Digital Skills Exchange?
There's a skills and talent crisis in the South West and we're tackling it head on!
Local businesses are not only struggling to recruit the talent they need but, are struggling to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. We know this because our local business community are shouting from the rooftops.
We also think more needs to be done to support individuals on their digital journey by showing just how innovative the industry is here in Bath and encouraging those who would never have considered a career in tech.
Bath Digital Festival launched the Digital Skills Exchange to:
- Attract talent to the region by putting Bath on the map (as a tech hub) and;
- shine a light on the businesses that reside in Bath;
- Break down the barriers to a career in digital;
- Match talent with businesses and jobs.
Are you intrigued by a career in tech?
Come along to one of our workshops in July.
Each event will share information about the industry, the types of roles that exist and; provide hands-on taster sessions around creativity and problem-solving skills and how that can be transformed into a digital career.
We're running four different sessions*:
- 8 July - New or returning workers
- 15 July - Those looking to re-skill;
- 22 July - Those already in tech and looking for their next step;
- 29 July - Young people aged 16-24 starting their digital journey.
If you're feeling inspired after the workshop, we'll assign you to a 1-2-1 coach who will support you with your next steps, whether that's further training, mentoring or helping you find your next role. We'll also introduce you to businesses so you can chat to the people doing the jobs that you are interested in, at our Open Doors event on 30 September.
*workshops will be face-to-face at a venue in Bath. Strict measures will be in place to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe.
Are you a business seeking new talent?
Join the programme and show off what you do.
At a big open doors event on 30 September, we’ll unlock the work environment in Bath and the surrounding area, bringing talent into businesses and businesses to talent.
This is an opportunity for businesses who join the programme to open their doors to a new wave of talent and; for individuals to step in to the industry and uniquely engage with the people already on the ground.
There's plenty of other perks for businesses involved in the Skills Exchange including showcasing opportunities, social coverage, mentoring and Festival benefits.
We can also offer 1-2-1 support if you're looking for new ways to transform your business and improve your talent flow.
The BDF Skills Portal
An online resource for businesses and talent.
We've creating an online portal for businesses and talent to use as an information and resource tool for recruitment and career development.
This is your space to read about example job specs, interesting career paths and to find out what trainings and support is out there.
For businesses, you can post a job, find out how you could take on an apprentice or intern, or find advice about transforming in to the digital space.
Over the course of the year we'll be working with organisations who have paved the way with role profiling, training courses and recruitment opportunities. Everything you need will be listed.
The Skills Exchange Vision
Our three year plan and beyond,
This year is our pilot phase. We're seeking funding to be able to continue with the programme for at least three years to scale and tweak. By October 2023, we expect to have a Digital Skills Exchange legacy in place that will continue to run self-sufficiently year-on-year.
