The BDF Digital Skills Exchange
Introducing activities for 2021
Why the Digital Skills Exchange?
There's a skills and jobs gap in the South West and we're tackling it head on!
There's a talent pipeline crisis here in Bath and the South West. Local businesses are not only struggling to recruit the talent they need but, are struggling to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. We know this because our local business community are shouting from the rooftops.
Bath Digital Festival is launching the Digital Skills Exchange to tackle the skills and jobs gap head on, by supporting individuals stepping in to a digital career and, helping business to find the talent they need. We're here to:
- Attract talent to the region by putting Bath on the map (as a tech hub) and;
- shine a light on the businesses that reside in Bath;
- Break down the barriers to a career in digital;
- Match talent with businesses and jobs.
Here's what we have planned
The Digital Skills Exchange will improve the flow of talent into businesses. With this project, there are two main areas to address:
- Help people to realise they have the skills required for the digital and tech roles that exists
- Unlock the working environment by opening the doors of Bath businesses - showcasing the work they do and the digital roles available.
Launched at the Bath Digital Festival in October and running throughout 2021, the pilot programme will run in three parts:
Digital Skills Roadshow
Taking the Skills Exchange workshops on the road
BDF will go out on location to host events for four different talent pools:
- Young people starting their digital journey;
- Those looking to re-skill;
- Returning workers;
- Those already in tech and looking for their next step.
Each event will offer information and workshops around creativity and problem-solving skills and how that can be transformed into a digital career.
We've had to tweak the schedule due to current restrictions but plan to host four roadshow events in July.
If you're interested in attending a workshop, get your name on the list!
Bath's Open Doors
Unlocking Bath's working environment
Bringing talent into businesses and businesses to talent, we’ll unlock the work environment in Bath and the surrounding area.
This is an opportunity for businesses who join the programme to open their doors to a new wave of talent and; for individuals to step in to the industry and uniquely engage with the people already on the ground.
30th September is the big day so, make sure it's in your diary.
If you're a budding business that wants to be involved, we'd love to hear from you.
Bath Digital Portal
We're creating an online portal for businesses and talent to use as an information and resource tool for recruitment and career development.
Over the course of the year we'll be working with other organisations who have paved the way with role profiling, training courses and recruitment opportunities. Everything you need will be listed.
What happens after the pilot?
Our three year plan
This year is our pilot phase. We're seeking funding to be able to continue with the programme for at least three years to scale and tweak. By October 2023, we expect to have a Digital Skills Exchange legacy in place that will continue to run self-sufficiently year-on-year.
