BDF is becoming a registered charity... 🎉
Bath Digital Festival needs your help!
Bath Digital Festival needs your help.
Over the years the festival has been brought to you by a dedicated team of local organisers, usually made up of local digital agency staff, freelancers and volunteers.
We put the festival on for the benefit of the community - with a vision to build a vibrant crucible of ideas, learning and innovation.
In order to run the festival each year this team has to start by raising over £50,000 from local sponsors and supporters. To an extent, this fund-raising work needs to happen before any events are confirmed and made available for you to book.
Over the past few years the festival has grown dramatically, now hosting thousands of attendees at over 85 events across our five-day run. Each year these numbers are growing and in 2018 we had to turn away many great events and many of those we did host sold out extremely quickly.
We want to make sure that the growth of the festival can continue. We also want to ensure that the festival doesn't lose sight of its role in speaking to the wider community in and around Bath. The festival should always be more than just techies talking to techies.
In short, we need to ensure that the festival's growth is sustainable.
Today - at the time of writing - the festival is a CIC. That's short for Community Interest Company. It's an independent company with the sole purpose of putting on the festival but it's an outwardly commercial company nonetheless.
So in 2019, the festival board is extremely excited to say that we have taken the decision to apply for charitable status.
Since the festival has always been run as a not-for-profit this change will allow us to cement its role in the community; as an annual event with a mission to spread knowledge and bring people together to think, discover, innovate and learn.
Here comes BDF2019!
It's full steam ahead for this year's festival... 🚂
The Charities Commission have received our application. As you can imagine they have a lot of applications and they have alerted us to the possibility that it may be some time before they are able to review ours. We will update you all as soon as we have any news.
In the meantime planning for an epic Bath Digital Festival 2019 continues apace and we will continue to build on previous years' successes to deliver a great event for the whole community.
This year, we are keenly focused on expanding our programme, to increase the festival's reach into communities in and around Bath that have less access to digital skills and learning. We will talk more about this opportunity when we open our call for events.
Should we be successful in becoming a registered charity this year we will be asking anyone involved in the festival if they would be willing to make a small donation. This donation will be used specifically to ensure the long-term sustainability of the festival.
We have great aspirations for the festival. As digital technology becomes an ever greater part of our lives, our work, our education and our future we believe that we can use the festival to reach the whole of the Bath community. We can only do this with your generous support.
